Continental Copper Food Molds, Set of 5 — Fluted, Scalloped & Star Patterns
A graduated group of five hand-raised copper kitchen molds, each interior lined with tin and formed with a distinct relief pattern — swirled flutes, scalloped lobes, and radiating star designs. All five retain the small ring-and-boss hanging loop soldered to the exterior wall, the standard fitting for storing molds on a kitchen rail. The copper is unmarked.
Molds of this type produced the elaborate turned-out puddings, aspics, and cake forms central to 19th and early 20th century Continental cooking. The tin wash on the interior kept the copper from contact with food, while the heavy exterior held and distributed heat evenly. Their sculptural forms have made them longstanding kitchen and wall décor favorites.
CONDITION
Good throughout. Consistent with working age: denting, surface rust and oxidation, and verdigris to the copper; tin linings show wear and darkening. Age-appropriate wear across the set.
