Description

Spanish Colonial Revival Turned Pine Tilt-Top Pedestal Side Table

A round tilt-top pedestal side table in the Spanish Colonial Revival manner, mid-20th century, built in solid pine throughout. The circular top carries a molded edge and a dark stain worked over lighter, warmly figured surfaces, rising on a boldly turned multi-baluster column. The pedestal seats on a distinctive four-footed platform base with concave apron cutouts and chamfered edges — a design detail that lifts it well clear of generic pedestal forms and grounds the Colonial Revival attribution.

The tilt mechanism is intact and operational: a wood brace with a brass latch and brass piano hinge on the underside lets the top swing vertical for storage or display against a wall. The Phillips-head screws securing that brace place the construction (or a later top repair) at mid-century or after. The Jacobean-influenced baluster turning and cornered platform base track directly to the Spanish Colonial Revival furniture produced across New Mexico and the Rio Grande corridor from the 1930s through the 1960s — a look still sought by decorators furnishing adobe and territorial-style interiors. No maker's marks or labels are present.

CONDITION

Good. Light scratching and minor chipping to the finish consistent with age and use; no remarkable damage. The tilt mechanism operates smoothly and the latch holds.
