Description

Antique Solid Wood Cavatelli / Ravioli Cage Rolling Pin, Hand-Carved

A hand-carved solid wood dough roller of open-cage construction, the two turned ball handles flanking a series of scalloped spool rollers set within a squared lattice frame. Each roller press-cuts and shapes portioned dough as it passes across the sheet — a form used across Italian home kitchens for cutting ravioli and pressing gnocchi and cavatelli in a single pass. Cutout cells measure roughly 1" × 7/8", defining the pocket size.

The wood is unmarked, warm honey in tone, with tight joinery holding the caged rollers between the frame rails. The scalloped roller edges do the cutting work while the recessed spools shape the dough — a specialized antique kitchen tool that outperforms a plain pin for anyone making filled pasta in volume. A functional object with genuine sculptural presence when displayed.

CONDITION

Good with age-appropriate wear throughout. Light surface soiling and handling marks to the wood; rollers turn freely within the frame. No breaks or losses noted.
