Antique Hand-Carved Wood Lattice Ravioli Rolling Pin, Folk Kitchen Tool
A solid wood ravioli rolling pin of the lattice-cage type — a barrel of squared ribs turned around a central shaft, each opening framing a scooped concave pocket. Rolled across a double sheet of filled pasta dough, the ribbed cells simultaneously press the grid seams and allow the filling to dome into each cavity, portioning an entire sheet of ravioli in a single pass. Turned ball handles at each end provide grip and let the barrel spin freely under hand pressure.
Unmarked and worked entirely by hand, with slight irregularities in rib spacing and cell depth that distinguish a maker's own piece from factory production. The wood has taken on a warm, mellow honey tone from age and use — the kind of patina that only accumulates through years of pasta days. A functional antique folk kitchen implement that displays equally well as a sculptural object on the wall or shelf, where its open lattice casts its own shadow.
CONDITION
Good with age-appropriate wear throughout. Handling patina on the ball handles and barrel. Minor separation at one handle collar; structurally sound and the barrel turns freely.
