Continental Carved Walnut Two-Door Sideboard with Fitted Silverware Drawer
A substantial two-door, two-drawer sideboard in warm-toned walnut, built with dimensional carved panel doors flanked by fielded side panels and canted corner stiles. The recessed door and drawer fronts carry geometric incised linework — diamonds, elongated lozenges, and a central cross motif around turned wood knobs — set against fluted corbel blocks that separate the two upper drawers. A molded overhanging top rests above a shaped bracket base with carved rosette terminals at the front feet.
Both drawers are dovetailed. One fits a removable four-compartment silverware divider lined in green baize, with a felt roll-up cloth marked DINNER FORKS. Behind the paneled doors sits a single fixed interior shelf, with a run of twenty-two hanging hooks mounted along the underside of the shelf area above the storage compartment — a purpose-built layout for flatware and serving pieces. Construction is solid wood throughout, unmarked, with a plank back.
CONDITION
Very Good with age-appropriate wear throughout. Finish wear and loss, scratching, and a few small chips and stains are present across the top and case, and old repairs are noted. Drawers and doors operate; minor imperfections throughout consistent with age and use.
