Zuni Carved Rock Crystal Bird Fetish with Offering Bundle
A Zuni bird fetish hand-carved from translucent rock crystal quartz, the stone worked to a rounded, upright body with a lifted head, incised eye, and a stepped, feathered tail at the base. Internal veils and rutile inclusions in the quartz catch light through the polished form. A single jet dot eye is set to each side.
Bound to the back is a traditional offering bundle: a tabular dalmatian jasper arrow point, shaped jet side pieces, a barrel bead of porous red Mediterranean coral, a nugget of Royston-type turquoise, and a polished white shell — likely spiny oyster or abalone — all secured with sinew alongside soft down feathers. The materials, carving style, and bundle construction are consistent with mid-to-late 20th-century Zuni fetish work.
CONDITION
Good with no remarkable damage. The bundle is intact and securely bound; feathers show expected softness and minor disarray consistent with age. Light natural inclusions and internal fractures are inherent to the crystal material, not damage.
