Jingdezhen Eggshell Porcelain Vase, Snow Landscape with Pines & Pagodas
An eggshell-thin porcelain vase from Jingdezhen, the historic ceramic center of Jiangxi Province, thrown in a slender baluster form with a trumpet neck and everted rim. The walls measure just 1.25 mm thick — the hallmark of tuotai ("bodiless") porcelain, worked so fine the body reads as translucent. The neck and foot carry hand-painted underglaze cobalt borders in a lace-like lappet and pendant motif, framing the primary scene.
The central band presents a hand-painted winter landscape: a gnarled pine rendered in fine crosshatched needlework, red-and-gold pagoda architecture nestled against snow-laden slopes, a scholar and attendant on a bridge, and sampans drifting across a misted lake toward distant peaks. Raised white dots of enamel simulate falling snow across the composition. The base carries a red underglaze square seal mark for Zhongguo Jingdezhen zhi (Made in Jingdezhen, China). This is a decorative studio piece of the modern Jingdezhen tradition, presented in its original silk-lined box with maker's label.
CONDITION
Excellent. No remarkable damage. Painting is crisp and the eggshell body sound throughout.
