Description

Mid-Century Souvenir Felt Pennants — Set of 4, Eastern U.S. Landmarks

Four wool felt pennants from the golden age of American road-trip culture — the era when families loaded into station wagons and brought home proof they'd been somewhere. This group covers the Eastern Seaboard with a pleasing range of color and graphic character: a Washington, D.C. pennant in deep crimson with a richly detailed lithographed Capitol vignette in a gilt cartouche and navy tassel; a Jamestown, VA. 1607 in burgundy with bold block lettering and four-pointed stars flanking the founding date; a cobalt blue Raleigh, N.C. with a colorful printed scene of the State Capitol building labeled in the image; and a purple South Carolina pennant featuring a printed vignette of a figure playing a banjo beside cotton bolls and magnolias — vivid period imagery from the mid-century Southern souvenir trade.

Pennants like these were churned out by the millions between the 1930s and 1960s for gift shops, tourist traps, and bus-station racks, yet intact matched groups in good color are harder to come by than their ubiquity suggests. As a curated four-piece set spanning Washington, colonial Virginia, and the Carolinas, this lot has real display appeal — a wall of these in a rec room, office, or den works immediately and reads as collected rather than random.

CONDITION

Good with age-appropriate wear throughout. Colors remain vivid on all four; the lithographed vignettes on the Washington and Raleigh pennants are intact with no significant lifting or loss. Minor fraying to felt edges and tassels on several pennants consistent with age and storage.
