1930s Louis XV Style Carved Walnut & Burl Highboy Chest of Drawers
A five-drawer tall chest in the Louis XV Revival taste, produced circa the 1930s in solid wood with figured walnut and matched burl veneers. The drawer fronts are laid up in book-matched panels that mirror across the case face, drawing the eye through concentric flame-figure patterns. Fluted, canted front stiles frame the drawer stack, and the piece rides on cabriole legs terminating in scrolled toes, with carved acanthus and shell motifs at the knees and across the shaped apron.
Original brass bail pulls dress most drawers, with a pierced foliate escutcheon-style mount on the center drawer. All five drawers are dovetailed; one carries an interior divider.
CONDITION
Fair. Finish wear throughout with scratches and scuffing across the top and sides, chipped carving and veneer at the apron and knee blocks, and a chip to a drawer front. A veneer crack is present near the case edge. The chest is sturdy and drawers operate. See supplemental reference images for documented damage.
