Cannonball Ranch-Style Queen Bed, Turned Ball Posts & Arched Headboard
A substantial queen-size bedstead in the American colonial-revival ranch tradition, built from solid pine with a warm reddish stain. The high arched headboard is cut from a single molded panel and flanked by heavily turned ball-and-vase posts topped with cannonball finials. The footboard repeats the motif at lower scale, resting on turned bun feet, with a bold turned crossbar spanning between the foot posts. Robust vase-and-ring turnings give the piece real visual weight.
The frame uses steel side rails with wood cross-slats for mattress support; the rails carry an interior stencil reading "354 330 RRG7." Construction includes pegged mortise-and-tenon joinery at the headboard, indicating solid-wood cabinet work rather than veneered panel goods. The form suits a range of interiors and breaks down for pickup and transport.
CONDITION
Fair. Age-appropriate wear throughout with scuffs, scratches, and finish loss across the posts, rails, and panels; several areas show blanched finish and lighter wear-through on the post blocks. The steel side rails carry surface rust and oxidation. All major joinery is present and the frame assembles.
