Dorris Harrison Desert Sunset Watercolor with Yucca in Bloom
A quiet watercolor on paper by Dorris Harrison, signed lower right in the artist's characteristic bold hand. The scene captures a high-desert sunset: a soft-washed sky moving from cool blue through gold to a low band of rose along the horizon, with layered mountains dissolving into ground fog. Two yucca in dark ink-heavy silhouette anchor the right foreground, their spiked rosettes and tall bloom stalks worked in confident dry-brush strokes against the pale sky.
The wet-into-wet sky and the graphic treatment of the yucca mark the piece as a study in contrast — atmospheric softness set against sharp botanical detail. Framed under glass with a stepped double mat in cream and brown, echoed by a distressed wood frame. The stepped mat corners and desert subject suit a Mesilla Valley or borderland interior.
