Franciscan Desert Rose 3-Piece Set — Divided Relish, Butter Dish & Jam Jar
Three serving pieces in Franciscan Desert Rose, the hand-painted embossed pattern introduced in 1941 and among the most enduring American dinnerware lines of the twentieth century. Each piece carries the signature raised pink wild roses, buds, and green foliage over a warm ivory ground with the hand-tinted brown twig border. The set includes a three-compartment oval relish tray, a covered butter dish with rose-bud finial, and a lidded jam jar topped by a matching bud knob. All are marked Franciscan / Made in California U.S.A. / Hand Decorated / Gladding, McBean & Co. / Oven-Safe on the underside.
The Gladding, McBean & Co. backstamp places production at the Glendale, California plant, where Desert Rose was thrown and hand-decorated for decades before manufacture moved overseas. The oven-safe earthenware body made these pieces genuine table workhorses rather than display-only ware. Together the three form a coordinated serving group — relish for the divided course, butter for the table, jam for the morning bread.
CONDITION
Excellent with no damage. Glaze is bright and the hand-painted decoration remains crisp across all three pieces. Both lids seat correctly.
