Fenton Art Deco Green Uranium Glass Two-Swan Bowl, 1930s
An oval two-handled bowl in green uranium (vaseline) glass by Fenton Art Glass Company, Williamstown, West Virginia, dating to the Art Deco period, circa 1930s. The pressed form is flanked by bilateral swan-head handles, their necks arching outward from a flanged rim worked with detailed feather and scale molding across the exterior body. Under ultraviolet light the glass fluoresces a vivid green, confirming the uranium oxide content that defines this collector category.
Fenton produced uranium glass through the 1930s until wartime restrictions curtailed uranium oxide in commercial glass, placing the swan motif and Art Deco styling firmly in that pre-WWII window. The swan handles are the most vulnerable element on this form, and both survive intact with crisp molding. The combination of bold Deco relief and dramatic UV fluorescence makes this a strong display piece for Depression-era glass collectors.
CONDITION
Excellent. No chips, cracks, or damage; both swan-head handles are intact with sharp mold detail. UV fluorescence confirmed under black light.
