Hand-Painted Reclaimed Wood Storage Chest on Mesquite Log Legs
A lidded storage chest finished with a swept, multicolor hand-painted surface — blues, greens, yellows, and terracotta orange brushed in overlapping strokes that leave the grain and wood tone reading through. The box is solid wood, raised on four turned mesquite log legs with the bark stripped and natural taper left intact. A rusted strap hinge plate anchors the front, iron ring pulls flank the ends, and the interior and lid underside show a well-figured fir plywood grain under a warm reddish finish. The back is fully finished, allowing placement anywhere in a room.
At roughly 32" wide and 29" tall on its legs, the chest works as an entry bench, blanket box, or accent storage piece. The riotous painted exterior reads as folk-art decorative rather than restoration — the color is the point. The mesquite legs ground the piece with a heavier, rustic contrast to the busy painted casework above.
CONDITION
Very Good. Very light scuffing throughout with no remarkable damage; rustic by design. Hinge and hardware show age-appropriate surface rust consistent with the intended aesthetic.
