Description

Antique Pine-Top Farmhouse Table, Red-Painted Base & Dovetail Drawers

The red is what stops you. Not barn red, not brick — something deeper, closer to dried chile, the kind of color a working household arrived at by mixing what was on hand and applying it until the wood was sealed and the job was done. The solid pine top was left bare to take the knife marks and the heat and the years, and it did: the surface has the warm, scrubbed honey tone that only comes from decades of use and honest cleaning. The base kept its paint. That contrast — raw working wood above, painted utility below — is exactly the tension that makes this table feel alive in a room.

Two drawers run the full depth of the table, which is considerable. Pull one open and the hand-cut dovetail joinery at the corners announces that whoever built this knew what they were doing. The plank bottoms are dark with long use. Ornate cast-iron bail pulls with pierced escutcheons dress up what is otherwise a working piece — a small gesture toward refinement on a table built to work hard. Turned legs with ball feet, the piece finished on all sides and perfectly suited to the center of a room. The underside reveals traces of an earlier green paint beneath the red, one layer of life under another.

CONDITION

Good with age-appropriate wear throughout. The painted base shows scuffing, rubbing, and paint loss at high-contact points consistent with long working use. Drawer interiors are darkened and worn; both drawers slide freely. Lock hardware is present; key is absent.
