George Briard Fused Glass Mosaic Walnut Lidded Box, Blue & Green
The lid comes off and the light hits those tiles — cobalt, emerald, turquoise, chartreuse — and suddenly a desk box is doing something a desk box has no business doing. George Briard, the mid-century decorative-arts brand of Latvian-born designer Jascha Brojdo, built his reputation on exactly this: the ordinary object elevated just enough to stop you mid-reach. The removable walnut lid is inset with textured fused-glass tiles in an offset geometric grid, each tile carrying that crinkled, hand-worked surface that catches and fractures light across the panel. Dark grout lines hold the geometry together. Below, solid walnut with a clean open interior and a recessed rim that seats the lid flush.
The turquoise tile at the lower left is signed in gold script: © Georges Briard. Briard's glass-and-wood accessories — less ubiquitous than his barware, harder to find intact and signed — are the pieces his collectors seek out. This one is both.
CONDITION
Good. Scuffing to the walnut consistent with use. Chip to the inside trim of the box rim; does not affect function or the fit of the lid. Glass mosaic and signature intact.
