Tom Seely / Gat Creek Signed Solid Cherry Hall Tree with Storage Bench, 2003
A multi-purpose entryway piece in solid American cherry, combining a mirrored coat stand with a hinged storage bench in a single narrow footprint. The arched crest rail tops a tall back panel set with a single rectangular mirror, flanked by four double-arm brass coat hooks with faceted glass ball terminals — six hook points in total. Below, a hinged bench seat lifts to reveal open box storage, framed by cabriole-style arm supports and a shaped apron. Cherry runs throughout, including secondary surfaces; the grain visible on the back panel confirms solid stock rather than veneer.
The reverse carries the Tom Seely Furniture maker's stamp alongside the handwritten artisan signature "Wesley Good," dated 7-02-03 — placing manufacture at July 2, 2003. Tom Seely Furniture was the predecessor brand to Gat Creek of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, which acquired the operation in 1996; this piece was built under the Tom Seely name during the early post-acquisition years. Gat Creek's practice of signing and dating each piece by the individual builder is a hallmark of its domestic production, and it distinguishes this hall tree from anonymous imported work.
CONDITION
Excellent. No remarkable damage; finish is even and joinery remains tight. Hinged seat and brass hooks are intact and functional.
