Painted Lift-Top Cupboard — Green & Pumpkin, Iron Latch, Antique
Antique American country cupboard in original two-color paint, the pumpkin-ochre ground framing recessed fielded panels in deep forest green — two tall panels centered, a stacked pair at left, and the motif carried onto the hinged door at right. Solid wood construction with a paneled back and bottom, iron strap hinges, and flathead screws throughout. The door retains its original hand-forged iron thumb-latch. Unmarked.
The rectangular top lifts to a deep storage well running the full width of the case, while the lower cupboard opens to a single interior compartment — a dual-storage form built for a working kitchen or pantry. The untouched green-on-pumpkin surface is the draw for collectors of early American painted furniture.
CONDITION
Good, as-found condition with the original painted surface intact — the primary value driver for this form. Honest wear throughout includes scattered paint loss and abrasion to the ochre ground and light surface checking along several boards. The cupboard door sits slightly askew.
