Willett Solid Maple Colonial Coffee Table with Drawer & Gallery Rail
There's a particular kind of American living room this table was made for — one with a braided rug, a wingback by the fireplace, and books that actually get read. Willett Furniture Company of Louisville, Kentucky built their reputation on solid maple and cherry reproductions of 18th-century American forms, and this coffee table is the idiom at its most honest: no veneer, no shortcuts, no apology. The rectangular top is bordered on three sides by a low gallery rail with softly scrolled ends — the ghost of an antique bucket bench, scaled for a sitting room. Beneath runs a single dovetailed drawer riding on wood runners, fitted with a scalloped colonial brass bail pull. The whole thing stands on four crisp turned baluster legs, the exposed mortise-and-tenon pegs at the leg tops a deliberate nod to the country furniture tradition it draws from. A lower shelf completes the composition.
The maple does what maple does in good light — the grain shifts from honey to amber across the top and shelf, warm and figured without trying. This is furniture that improves a room by being in it rather than demanding to be noticed. The maker's brand, WILLETT, is burned cleanly inside the drawer.
CONDITION
Good with no remarkable damage. Light surface wear consistent with age and use; finish remains warm and even throughout. Drawer operates smoothly on its wood runners.
