Large Mexican Terracotta Storage Jar, Wheel-Thrown Olla with Loop Handles
A large wheel-thrown, unglazed terracotta storage jar in the traditional olla/tinaja form, produced in Mexico. The sandy buff-colored earthenware body carries coarse grog and sand inclusions throughout, with continuous horizontal ribbing from throwing running the full height of the vessel. A wide everted rim caps the form above a tapering conical lower body, and a pair of applied loop handles sit at the shoulder.
CONDITION
Good. Age-consistent surface staining, mineral deposits, and use-wear across the body. A chip is present on the bottom. Rustic by design in its hand-thrown irregularities and crimped detailing.
