Antique Copper & Maple Wall-Mount Kindling Bin with Cutout Handle Board
An oval-form copper vessel repurposed as a wall-mountable kindling or firewood holder, built from riveted copper sheet with a rolled top rim and a seamed body. One long side is fitted with a tall shaped maple board rising to a pierced carrying handle; the opposite side carries a turned maple grip mounted between two cast-iron bracket ears. The riveted seam runs the full height of the flat face, and the interior retains a tinned lining. The copper shows a warm, unpolished patina throughout with natural darkening and verdigris at the seams.
The construction—hand-rivets, tinned interior, cast brackets, and a turned wood grip—points to late-19th to early-20th-century utilitarian metalwork of the type made for the hearth and kitchen. The tall maple board reads as a later addition adapting the piece for hanging beside a fireplace, its surface heavily worm-tracked and worn smooth from handling.
CONDITION
Good with age-appropriate wear. Denting and dings to the copper body, surface oxidation, and verdigris at seams. The maple board shows extensive old worm channeling, scattered scratches, and a darkened water stain; interior tinning is dull with wear.
