Robert "Bob" Cabana Signed 1982 "Peaceful Uses of Outer Space" UN First Day
A commemorative cachet envelope signed in black ink by astronaut Robert "Bob" Cabana above his printed "PILOT" designation. The design pairs a hand-illustrated Space Shuttle, Apollo-Soyuz docking module, and orbital station over a hatched globe with bold red "PEACEFUL USES OF OUTER SPACE" lettering. The cover is franked with a 20¢ United Nations "Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space" stamp, canceled with the June 11, 1982 First Day of Issue postmark.
Cabana flew four Shuttle missions, commanded the first ISS assembly flight aboard STS-88, and later served as Director of NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The cover carries the UN-SM-1 series notation at lower left. The reverse is unmarked.
