Royal Vienna Amorosa Portrait Plate — Ornate Giltwood Frame, Beehive Mark
A Royal Vienna–style porcelain cabinet plate centered with a hand-painted portrait titled "Amorosa," depicting a young woman with loose dark hair and a bare shoulder draped in white and rose. The wide claret-red border carries a dense gilt grapevine-and-cluster motif framed by a beaded gilt inner band. The reverse bears the gilt "Amorosa" script title and an underglaze blue beehive (shield) mark consistent with Zeh, Scherzer & Co. (Z.S. & Co.), Bavaria, circa 1900.
The plate is mounted within an ornate giltwood-and-gesso frame featuring a beaded outer molding, egg-and-dart courses, and applied rococo scroll-and-foliate corner ornaments, wire-backed for hanging. Old pencil inventory notations and partial paper labels remain to the reverse.
CONDITION
The porcelain plate is Very Good, with a bright hand-painted portrait and gilt border showing no cracks or chips. The surrounding frame is Good, carrying the primary wear: pronounced rubbing to the corner appliqués with the finish worn through to a dark ground, plus minor chips and losses to the gesso ornament. The backing board is soiled with a small hole to the reverse.
