Description

Cast Iron "Bull Dog Bank" Mechanical Coin Bank — Pull-Tail Action

A reproduction of the classic Bull Dog Bank mechanical still bank, cast in iron and hand-painted in a deep bronze finish over a black plinth lettered "BULL DOG BANK" in gilt. The seated bulldog rests one paw on a coin chute; a downward pull of the tail opens the hinged mouth for coin insertion. The collar is studded, the eye drilled through, and the base accented with the lilac-and-gold draped detail at the dog's flank.

The bank is maker marked "TAIWAN" on the underside, identifying it as a later cast reproduction of the 19th-century original. It remains a working mechanical bank with the full tail-pull action intact, and currently holds a partial accumulation of coins. A familiar form among penny-bank collectors and a sturdy, functional display piece.

CONDITION

Good and fully functional. Tested and working; the tail-pull mouth mechanism operates as intended. Finish shows wear and loss throughout, with paint flaking at high points and along the muzzle and collar. Currently partially full of coins.
