Description

Copco Michael Lax Danish Enameled Cast Iron Skillet & Saucepan, Flame Orange

Two pieces of Copco enameled cast iron designed by Michael Lax and manufactured in Denmark, finished in the brand's signature flame-orange exterior over a cream enamel interior. The larger skillet (model 103E) carries a long teak handle with cast aluminum hanging cap, plus a cast iron helper handle opposite for two-handed lifting. The smaller saucepan features an integral enameled cast iron handle with hanging eye and a pour spout for controlled decanting. Both underside marks confirm the maker: one stamped COPCO · 103E · DENMARK, the other carrying the half-circle Copco medallion reading "Michael Lax Design Denmark."

Lax's Copco line, introduced in the 1960s, became one of the defining expressions of Scandinavian Modern kitchenware in the American market — the sculptural cast iron forms and saturated enamel colors were as much display objects as cooking tools. The teak-handled skillet in particular remains among the most recognizable pieces of mid-century Danish cookware. The two pieces share the same palette and design language, reading as a coordinated set.

CONDITION

Good with honest signs of use. The cream interiors show fine surface crazing, light utensil marks, and minor staining; the saucepan has a chip to the rim. Exterior enamel remains glossy with scattered minor wear. Undersides show expected cooking patina and surface oxidation. Teak handle is sound.
