Space Shuttle STS-3 Commemorative Cover Signed by Jack Lousma — 1982
Commemorative airmail cover marking Space Shuttle Orbital Flight Test #3 (STS-3), postmarked Greenbelt, MD, March 30, 1982, at the NASA Spaceflight Tracking and Data Network (STDN) station. The cachet illustrates the shuttle stack in launch configuration and is captioned NASA-STDN, Greenbelt, Maryland Station. The cover is franked with a "C"-rate Domestic Mail eagle stamp tied by a Greenbelt machine cancel dated within the STS-3 mission window (March 22–30, 1982).
The cover carries a bold black felt-tip signature of Jack Lousma, commander of STS-3 alongside pilot Gordon Fullerton — the third orbital test flight of Columbia and the only shuttle mission to land at White Sands, New Mexico. Covers postmarked at the tracking station and signed by the flight's commander tie the philatelic keepsake directly to the mission it commemorates. A Certificate of Authenticity will be issued by Mesilla Valley Estate Sales.
CONDITION
Very Good. The cover is clean and bright with crisp cachet printing and a legible postmark; the airmail border is unfaded. Signatures are strong and unsmeared. Light handling only; envelope is unsealed and unaddressed with a blank verso.
