Description

Don Lind Signed 1971 SPACEPEX NASA Manned Spacecraft Center Cover

Official commemorative cover issued by the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center Stamp Club marking "Ten Years of U.S. Manned Space Flight," 1961–1971. The cachet illustrates the arc of the program — Gemini spacewalk, capsule, and lunar module descent — in vivid color across the left panel. It carries the 10¢ "First Man on the Moon" Air Mail stamp (Scott C76) and a clean SPACEPEX — M.S.C. STA., MAY 8 1971, HOUSTON, TX circular postmark. Signed in bold black felt-tip at lower right by Don Lind, NASA astronaut and physicist who flew aboard STS-51-B in 1985 after a legendary nineteen-year wait between selection and his first spaceflight.

Covers from the Manned Spacecraft Center Stamp Club circulated within the Houston space community and were regularly autographed at SPACEPEX events — first-day and commemorative covers signed by working astronauts at the source remain among the most grounded and historically coherent formats in spaceflight philately. A Certificate of Authenticity will be issued by Mesilla Valley Estate Sales.

CONDITION

Very Good. Bright cachet colors and a crisp postmark strike; stamp is sound and well-adhered. Envelope is clean with faint handling and light show-through on the verso; the flap is unsealed. Signature is bold and legible.
