Folk Art Painted Pine Hall Bench — Worn Turquoise & Blue Paint
A rustic hand-built bench of solid pine, joined with a frank, vernacular carpentry that favors heavy planks and exposed structure over refinement. The serpentine-topped crest rail and single horizontal back slat sit atop square posts that pass through to peg at the top, while the thick two-board seat rests on splayed, braced legs tied by a low stretcher. Old turquoise and blue paint survives across the boards in a heavily weathered, flaked state — bare wood grain showing warm gold beneath, with traces of additional color at the legs.
The wax-rubbed finish over remaining paint gives the surface its mellow, broken patina. This is a working country bench — the kind made by hand for a porch, entry, or courtyard — and the layered paint loss reads as honest age rather than applied effect.
CONDITION
Good with no remarkable damage. The original turquoise/blue paint is heavily worn and flaked throughout, exposing bare wood across much of the seat, back, and legs — distressing consistent with age and outdoor or porch use, not a designed finish. Joinery is sound and the bench stands solidly.
