Chinese Rosewood Curio Display Cabinet with Mirrored Back & Curved-End Shelves
A wall-mounting rosewood curio cabinet built in the tradition of the Chinese scholar's display case, with a mirrored back panel that reflects and multiplies whatever small treasures sit on its tiered shelves. Eight asymmetrically placed shelves step across the interior in the classic duobaoge ("hundred treasures") arrangement, each with everted, upturned scrolled ends. The crest rail and apron are carved with low-relief scrolling foliate motifs, and a hinged glazed door fitted with brass hardware closes over the front.
The case is designed for both wall mounting and free standing, with brass keyhole hangers fitted to the verso and green felt pads to protect the wall surface. Cabinets of this form were made to showcase miniature jades, snuff bottles, carved figures, and other collected curiosities — the staggered shelf heights breaking the interior into individual stages so each object reads as its own small composition. The mirrored back doubles the visual depth and brightens the enclosed space.
CONDITION
Good. Even color and finish across the case with light handling wear consistent with age. Brass door hardware and hinges are intact; glazed door opens and closes properly. Mirror back is clear with minor edge wear.
