Cedric Hustace Impressionist Mountain Landscape, Acrylic on Canvas, Signed 2007
A small but densely composed acrylic-on-canvas landscape by Evansville, Indiana artist Cedric Hustace, signed and dated lower right "Cedric Hustace ©2007." The composition packs a full mountain valley into just under six inches of picture plane — a stand of golden poplars rising through dense green hillsides, a turquoise river cutting toward a red-roofed cottage at lower left, and two small figures paused on a foreground path. A turbulent gray-and-white sky presses down over distant teal ridgelines, the brushwork loose and energetic throughout, with confident impasto throughout.
Hustace's landscapes favor emotional color over literal description — a high-key palette and intuitive stroke that compress panoramic scale into miniature format without losing atmosphere or narrative. The piece is professionally framed in a deep stepped wood molding with a gilt laurel-leaf inner liner; no glass. Sold as found, framed.
History
Cedric Hustace was born in Hawaii and studied art at the University of Miami and in Heidelberg, Germany before building parallel careers as an attorney and painter. His impressionist acrylics and ink-and-watercolor works span portraiture, landscapes, seascapes, and sports scenes. His commissioned work appeared on the commemorative posters for the 1996 and 2000 Arts Fest River Run in Evansville, and he received the 2002 Artist of the Year Award from the Arts Council of SW Indiana, the 2002 Presidential Citation for his cover art for the Res Gestae law journal of the Indiana State Bar Association, and the 2003 Best of Evansville Local Artist recognition from Evansville Living Magazine. His paintings have entered the permanent collection of his alma mater, the University of Texas at El Paso (ten works across multiple years), and are on institutional display at Iolani Palace in Honolulu, the Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science, Washington University in St. Louis, the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, and numerous venues across the United States and internationally. In 2011, Hustace served as Resident Artist for Oceania Cruises aboard the inaugural voyage of the m/s Marina between Genoa and San Francisco. His work has appeared on covers of both the Indiana State Bar Association and the Texas Bar Journal.
