Calvin Boles "New Mexico: Ballads of the Southwest" LP — Yucca Records, Alamogordo, 1965

A regional private-press country and Western folk LP from Yucca Records of Alamogordo, New Mexico, performed by Calvin Boles. The twelve-track program runs through New Mexico history and lore — "Chief Geronimo," "Billy The Kid," "Ballad of Pat Garrett," "Life of Oliver Lee," and the now-locally-famous UFO entries "Land of the UFO" (titled "Lookin' For That UFO" on the back) and "From Arrows to Rockets," nodding to the Tularosa Basin's rocketry history. Backing musicians are credited on the verso: fiddle by John Cooper, electric guitar by Jim Temple, harmonica by Boles, steel guitar by Elmo Davis, mandolin by Bob Prather, drums by Bill Gross Jr., and bass by Bill Talley.

The album was sponsored by the Otero County State Bank, whose sleeve essay and Dorsey Bonnell pen illustrations fill the back cover — a snapshot of mid-1960s southern New Mexico civic culture. Cover photography is credited to Elmo Davis. Catalog number LPM 103. The front cover carries a small red dot sticker at upper left; the verso bears a period ink date of "8-11-65" and pencil pricing notations, consistent with original shop handling.

CONDITION

Good overall and playable as shown. Single-owner copy with no unpleasant odors. Jacket shows edge and corner wear, surface soiling and toning to the verso, a red dot sticker to the front, and handwritten ink and pencil notations on the back.
