Wendell Sterling Aesthetic-Movement Engraved Teaspoons, Set of 10
Set of ten American sterling silver teaspoons by the Wendell Manufacturing Co. with bright-cut Aesthetic Movement floral engraving running the length of each handle — blossoms, sprigs, and stylized foliate sprays in the naturalistic late-Victorian taste. Each handle carries an engraved script "B" cipher at the terminal, and the reverses are individually engraved "Nellie" in flowing script. The bowls are plain and well-formed in classic oval profile.
Each spoon is marked STERLING beside the shaped Wendell maker's cartouche — a Chicago firm active from the mid-1850s into the early 1900s and known for finely engraved flatware in exactly this idiom. The combination of a household-cipher monogram and a personal name ("Nellie") on the reverse points to a presentation or personal table set, typical of how such patterns were ordered and gifted in the 1880s–1890s.
CONDITION
Good overall with no remarkable damage. Surfaces show light scratching and tarnish consistent with age and use; engraving remains crisp. Untouched patina throughout — we'll leave the polishing to you.
