Mahogany Double Drop-Leaf Tea Cart on Casters, Turned Gallery Handle
A two-tier serving cart in mahogany solids and veneers, built with dual drop leaves that fold down at rest and extend to a generous top when raised. The upper surface is bordered at one end by a turned gallery handle for steering, while a fixed lower shelf carries bottles, dishes, or service ware below. Square tapered legs ride on brass-and-rubber casters for smooth movement between dining room and parlor.
The drop-leaf cart was a fixture of mid-century American entertaining — compact against a wall with leaves down, then opened to full width for tea or cocktail service. This example keeps the practical proportions of the form: an 18" lower shelf height for clearance, and a top that nearly doubles in width when both leaves are up.
CONDITION
Good overall with age-appropriate wear. Finish wear and loss across the top, with fine crazing and light scratching to the surface. Several small chips to the veneer, and the gallery handle needs tightening. Casters roll freely.
