Japanese Silk Embroidery — Mallards Descending Over Marsh, Framed Behind Glass
A finely worked silk thread embroidery depicting a flight of mallards dropping toward a reed-lined marsh at dusk, with several drakes already settled on the water and a scattered skein of distant birds along the horizon. The threadwork builds remarkable depth: directional stitching renders the rippled water and gives the long primary feathers a glossy sheen, while the golden marsh grasses and lavender-toned sky carry a soft luminosity characteristic of the medium. Close detail shows the dense, hand-laid floss texture and the subtle blue-to-cream gradation of the sky.
CONDITION
Fair. The frame shows scuffing, and the silk exhibits toning along with UV fading consistent with light exposure over time. The embroidered surface remains intact with crisp stitch detail throughout.
