Studio Pottery Lidded Casserole, Twisted Rope Handle — Signed "Rich"
A wheel-thrown stoneware lidded casserole finished in a mottled blue-gray glaze that breaks to cream and exposed iron-flecked clay at the rims and foot. The domed lid carries a hand-formed twisted rope handle, its coils picking up rust-brown accents where the glaze pools and thins. Soft vertical ribbing runs the body wall, and the unglazed terracotta-toned clay shows through at the lid edge and lower foot — a deliberate contrast typical of functional studio ware.
The piece is hand thrown and hand glazed, signed on the underside "Rich" in iron-oxide brushwork. The interior glaze shows fine all-over crazing consistent with a functional stoneware body. A practical and sculptural form, suited equally to the table and open shelf display.
CONDITION
Very Good with no remarkable damage. Interior shows fine crazing throughout, consistent with the glaze and use. Iron speckling and glaze pooling at the rims are characteristic of the firing, not flaws.
