Rising Las Cruces Studio Art Pottery Charger, Ruffled-Rim Crystalline Glaze
A large hand-thrown stoneware charger by Rising, a studio potter working in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The flared, rippling rim breaks into a wide ruffle, each undulation catching a run of glossy brown-black glaze that pools at the high points and bleeds inward. Toward the well, the surface opens into a layered field of crystalline and mottled glazes — sea green, slate blue, ochre, and warm sand pulling against one another in soft, organic continents. No two areas repeat.
The glaze does the storytelling here: the brown drip edge frames a center that behaves like weathered stone or oxidized copper, with speckled crystalline blooms scattered through the green. The unglazed white stoneware underside is hand-incised "Rising / Las Cruces" — a direct tie to the Mesilla Valley studio tradition. A decorative charger suited for a stand, a wall mount, or a centerpiece.
CONDITION
Excellent with no damage. Glaze surface is glossy and intact throughout; rim ruffle and pooled runs are designed glaze behavior, not flaws.
