Pair of Reproduction Faïence-Style Cache Pots with Gilt Brass Mounts
A decorative pair of crackle-glaze ceramic cache pots in the manner of late 19th-century French faïence, both mounted on cast brass scroll-form feet. The taller flared piece features a pierced ribbon-loop gallery rim, square panels with insect motifs at the corners, and hand-painted sepia decoration of meadow grasses, wildflowers, and butterflies against a craquelure ground. The longer jardinière takes a Louis XVI navette form with scrolled handles, a pierced gallery wall, applied rose garlands in low relief, and acanthus-mounted brass feet with a central palmette apron.
Both pieces carry underside marks reading "1895" within crowned crests — a decorative dating convention rather than a period mark. One base bears "NOT FOR FOOD USE / MAY POISON FOOD / MADE IN CHINA"; the other reads "NOT FOR FOOD PURPOSE / FOR DECORATIVE USE ONLY." These are modern reproductions in the historicist French taste, well-suited as console centerpieces, mantel accents, or dried-arrangement vessels.
CONDITION
Good with no damage noted. Allover craquelure to the glaze is a designed decorative effect, not damage. Brass mounts retain their gilt finish with light handling wear.
