Apollo 11 First Man on the Moon Gold Foil Covers, Set of 3 — 1969 First Day of Issue
A set of three commemorative envelopes marking the Apollo 11 lunar landing, each bearing the 10¢ "First Man on the Moon" Air Mail stamp (Scott C76) canceled with the Washington, DC "First Day of Issue" postmark dated September 9, 1969, paired with a souvenir "Moon Landing — Jul 20 1969 USA" commemorative cancel. Each cover carries a blue-printed cachet of an astronaut planting the American flag beside the Lunar Module, captioned with Armstrong's words: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
Affixed to each envelope is a gold-foil commemorative plaque reproducing the lunar plaque text — "Here men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the Moon, July 1969, A.D. We came in peace for all mankind" — with facsimile signatures of Neil A. Armstrong, Michael Collins, Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr., and President Richard Nixon. These were produced as souvenir philatelic keepsakes; the plaque signatures are printed facsimiles, not autographs. Envelopes measure the standard 6" × 9" format and are unsealed.
CONDITION
Very Good overall. Stamps and cancels are crisp; gold-foil plaques are bright with minimal handling marks. Light surface waviness and faint cachet show-through to the backs of the envelopes; pencil notations to the verso of two covers. No tears or losses.
