Frank Borman Signed Apollo 8 Lunar Voyage Cachet Cover, Cape Canaveral Dec 21 1968
A Lunar Voyage Cachets commemorative cover marking the launch of Apollo 8, the first crewed mission to orbit the Moon. The green-printed cachet illustrates the full mission arc — the Saturn V on the pad, the trans-lunar flight plan with its ten lunar orbits, and the re-entry and splashdown sequence — flanked by portraits of the three-man crew: Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders. The cover is franked with a 6¢ U.S. flag stamp and bears a Cape Canaveral, FL DEC 21 AM 1968 postmark, dated to launch day.
The cover is boldly signed in black ink by Frank Borman, mission commander, across the right face. Apollo 8 is best remembered for its Christmas Eve broadcast from lunar orbit and the "Earthrise" photograph taken by Anders — events referenced here in the printed "There Is A Santa Claus" notation marking the engine burn that sent the crew home on December 25. Addressed to E. Colle, Box 615, Cocoa, Fla.
Authenticity
The Borman signature is guaranteed authentic by NM Estate Auctions. A Certificate of Authenticity will be issued to the winning bidder.
CONDITION
Very Good. The cover is clean and bright with a crisp postmark and a strong, unfaded signature. Light handling only; no tears, stains, or creases of note. Verso bears faint toning along the flap edges and a pencil notation.
