Chuck Yeager Signed "50 Years of Supersonic Flight" First Day Cover — Bell X-1, Edwards AFB 1997
An Official First Day of Issue cover honoring the 50th anniversary of supersonic flight, boldly signed in blue ink by General Charles "Chuck" Yeager — the pilot who first broke the sound barrier aboard the Bell X-1 on October 14, 1947. The cachet pairs a detailed line drawing of the Bell X-1 with the legend "50 Years of Supersonic Flight," and the cover carries three 32¢ First Supersonic Flight 1947 commemorative stamps designed by Paul Salmon. The postmark reads Edwards AFB, CA — Oct 14, 1997, tying the issue directly to the site of the historic flight on its precise anniversary date.
Issued by the Postal Commemorative Society, the cover is mounted on its original presentation page with a printed history of the X-1 program and Yeager's record-setting flight. Yeager's autograph appears across the center of the cover, large and clearly legible. A First Day Cover postmarked at Edwards AFB on the exact 50th anniversary is a fitting carrier for the signature of the man who was there.
Authenticity
Mesilla Valley Estate Sales guarantees this signature authentic and will issue a Certificate of Authenticity to the winning bidder.
