Description

Tlaquepaque Mexican Redware Serveware Set — Floral Banda Platters, Plates & Salsero

A five-piece grouping of traditional Mexican barro rojo terracotta serveware from the Tlaquepaque pottery tradition, each piece glazed in warm tobacco-brown and hand-painted with the classic banda floral border — concentric rings of cream and dark dot-blossoms with green leafwork tracing the rims and centers. The set includes two oval platters of differing sizes, two round plates, and a four-well salsero with a central carrying loop, suited for presenting salsas, guacamole, pico, and crema together at the table.

Tlaquepaque, the artisan district just outside Guadalajara, has been the center of Mexico's decorative pottery trade for generations — and this style of freehand dot-flower banda work is one of its most enduring expressions. The slight irregularities in form and the brushed green leafwork are hallmarks of taller-made pieces rather than factory production. A working set, equally suited to everyday Mexican home cooking or to display on an open kitchen shelf.

CONDITION

Good overall with no chips or remarkable damage. Plate and platter interiors show minor utensil wear and light surface scratches consistent with table use; the supplemental reference images show this scratching concentrated across the glazed centers. Wear to the painted rim trim on the plates as noted in staff inspection. Salsero presents cleanly.
