United Furniture Mid-Century Blonde Mahogany Bow-Front Dresser with Mirror
A late-1940s to mid-1950s American bedroom dresser in blonde mahogany solids and veneers by United Furniture Corporation of Lexington, Mississippi, identified by the stenciled production code A-1533-3 DR G8 on the case back. The bow-front case carries eight smaller drawers flanking two larger center drawers above a pair of wide bottom drawers — ten in total, all dovetailed. Brushed aluminum teardrop pulls and sculpted bowtie handles define the front, and squared brushed metal sabots cap the base. Top left and the two center drawers are fitted with wood dividers.
The matching beveled plate-glass mirror mounts to twin blonde pedestals rising from the case top — a hallmark of late-1940s through 1950s American bedroom suites. United Furniture was one of the largest postwar case-goods producers in the South, and the blonde finish was marketed as a lighter alternative to the heavy walnut and mahogany of the prewar era. It defined the look of countless American bedrooms across the period.
CONDITION
Good with honest signs of use throughout. Scratches and scuffing across the top, a small finish chip with exposed wood (dime shown for scale in reference image), edge wear at corners, and light handling marks to the case sides. Drawers operate smoothly on wood runners; mirror plate is clean with no visible silvering loss.
