Mexican Redware Pottery Trio — Bandera-Style Serving Tray & Two Bowls
A three-piece set of Mexican redware pottery in burnished terracotta, comprising one rectangular serving tray with decorated rim and exterior, and two smaller oval bowls. The tray displays the hallmark bandera-style banding around its exterior — a fish-scale motif in cream, green, and dark brown set above a wider scalloped border, with rim hatching that echoes traditional Mexican folk pottery from the central states. The interior of each piece is finished in a glossy red lead-free glaze with the soft kiln speckling characteristic of low-fired wood-kiln work.
Each piece carries an impressed "MADE IN MEXICO" cartouche on the underside, indicating mid-twentieth-century production for the cross-border market. The two smaller bowls share form and finish, suggesting they were made as a matched serving pair for salsas, condiments, or table accompaniments. The trio works equally well as functional serveware or as a display grouping celebrating the everyday artistry of Mexican village potters.
CONDITION
Good overall. Minor scuffing and visible signs of use consistent with age; no chips or remarkable damage. Glaze surfaces remain glossy with light wear to the unglazed exterior bases.
