Description

Tlaquepaque Barro Rojo Redware Place Setting, 11 Pieces, Hand-Painted Floral Dots

An eleven-piece set of traditional barro rojo (red clay) pottery from Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, each piece hand-painted with the classic floral dot motif — white and green rosettes arranged in repeating bands against the warm terracotta ground. The set assembles a near-complete rustic place setting: six round plates, a footed bowl with green scalloped rim, two small dipping bowls, a square tray, a serving spoon, and a small oval platter. Glazed interiors carry the brushy, hand-thrown character this Tlaquepaque tradition is known for.

Tlaquepaque's redware workshops have supplied Mexican folk kitchens — and the border communities that love them — for generations. The floral dot pattern is one of the most recognized decorative vocabularies in the tradition, as practical on a table set with salsa and beans as it is arranged on a shelf. The variety of forms in this lot makes it equally useful as a working set or as decorative display.

CONDITION

Good overall with no remarkable damage. Signs of honest use throughout, including light utensil scratches to the glazed interiors and minor wear to the painted rims consistent with regular table use.
