Hand-Blown Green Glass Fruit Platter with Rough Pontil, Unmarked
A large hand-blown green glass fruit platter with a wide, gently sloping rim and a shallow well centered on a rough pontil mark — the unground, fire-finished base typical of earlier or more vernacular hand-blown work rather than polished studio production. The body carries scattered seed bubbles and internal striations throughout, the kind of in-glass character that comes from working hot glass by hand. The color reads as a bright, saturated bottle-green that deepens toward the rim where the glass thins.
At over eighteen inches across, this platter was built to hold fruit, bread, or a table centerpiece — a working piece with the heft and presence to back it up. The rough pontil, seed bubbles, and striations are consistent with artisanal or small-workshop production rather than factory tableware.
CONDITION
Excellent overall with no remarkable damage. Light shelf wear to the underside. Imperfections in the glass — seed bubbles, striations, and the rough central pontil — are inherent to the hand-blown process and not damage.
