Christofle Gallia Rococo Mirror — Beveled Oval, Model 4192
An oval Louis XV-style wall mirror in a cast Rococo frame by Christofle, modeled in flowing C-scrolls, acanthus leaves, and pierced shell (coquille) cartouches cresting the top and base. The beveled plate is set within asymmetric rocaille molding rendered in high relief, the silvered surface holding strong reflectivity across the raised scrollwork. The reverse — a wood back panel secured with flathead screws — is stamped with the Christofle Gallia cockerel-in-shield mark, a figural control punch, and the model number 4192. It carries no silver standard hallmark; a client XRF test at Tex Mex Coins of El Paso read 35% silver content.
The frame is executed in Gallia métal, the silvered alloy Christofle introduced at the 1900 Exposition Universelle and cast in steel molds rather than hand-raised — prized by the house for durability and crisp casting detail. The Gallia cockerel marks the line as distinct from Christofle's hollowware, and pieces carrying the rooster shield draw an established collector following.
CONDITION Good, with no remarkable damage. Casting detail is sharp and the beveled plate reflects clearly, though the mirror surface carries visible scuffs and the frame high points show light wear with some warmer base tone at points and tarnish settled in the recesses, as shown. We'll Leave the Polishing to You.
