Orrefors "GC 4501" Heavy Cut Crystal Vase by Gunnar Cyrén
A substantial cut crystal vase by Swedish designer Gunnar Cyrén for Orrefors, model 4501. The form combines a deep, rounded body with a wide cylindrical collar, divided by four vertical cut panels that meet a horizontal band at the shoulder — creating a crisp cross-axis grid against the otherwise smooth, weighty crystal. The polished base anchors the piece, and the thick walls give the vase its considerable heft.
Cyrén joined Orrefors in 1959 and became one of the defining voices of Swedish post-war glass, known for sculptural cut forms that play heavy crystal against precise geometry. The 4501 reflects that sensibility — restrained, architectural, and engineered for light. Acid-etched signature reading "Orrefors GC 4501-147" to the underside.
CONDITION
Very Good overall with no chips or cracks. Bottom shows shelf wear — fine surface scratches across the polished base consistent with use and display. Cut surfaces and rim remain crisp.
