Timmy Woods Beverly Hills Carved Wood Peace Dove Novelty Handbag, 1998

A signed and dated Timmy Woods Beverly Hills Collection novelty handbag, hand-carved from a single block of wood into the form of a peace dove. The bird's body opens at a hinged seam to reveal a black satin-lined interior with a snap closure, accessed through the bird's back. Painted lettering across both sides spells PEACE, PAIX, and SHALOM in crossword formation, with a gilded beak and inset bead eyes completing the figure. A braided black paracord shoulder strap attaches at brass hardware fittings.

Timmy Woods of Beverly Hills built her reputation in the 1990s and 2000s with sculptural carved-wood handbags that became red-carpet conversation pieces — featured in Sex and the City, carried by Oprah Winfrey, and stocked at Neiman Marcus and Saks. Hand-carved in the Philippines under her direction, each piece is signed and dated. This dove example carries the artist's inked signature and 1998 date inside the cavity, alongside the original "Made in the Philippines" label and intact hangtag.
