Goebel Hummel "Accordion Boy" 185 & "Sweet Music" 186 Figurines, West Germany
A charming pair of M.I. Hummel figurines produced by Goebel in West Germany, featuring two of the most beloved musical subjects from the Hummel catalog. Accordion Boy (Hum 185) shows a Bavarian lad in green Tyrolean hat, lederhosen, and slouched stockings, head tilted back mid-song as he works the orange bellows of his squeezebox. Sweet Music (Hum 186) depicts a young cellist in green jacket and striped trousers, eyes half-closed, drawing his bow across the strings of a warm-toned upright cello. Both bear the underglaze blue bee mark and incised "Germany" on the base.
Modeled after the original drawings of Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel, these figurines were first introduced in the 1940s and have been collected worldwide for their soft hand-painted palette, sensitive modeling, and unmistakable warmth. The pair makes a natural duet — two members of the same imagined village band, captured mid-performance.
CONDITION
Good overall. Accordion Boy has a chip to the hair tuft above the hat as shown in images. Sweet Music presents cleanly with bright paint and no notable losses observed. Bases stable; markings legible.
