1996 USPS Legends of Hollywood James Dean 32¢ Stamp Sheet, 20 Stamps

Complete mint sheet of twenty 32¢ James Dean commemorative stamps issued by the United States Postal Service in 1996 as the second installment of the Legends of Hollywood series. The stamp reproduces a color portrait of Dean in a dark turtleneck against a moody horizon, paired with a black-and-white selvage photograph of the actor walking a rain-soaked New York street — the iconic 1955 Roy Schatt image. The right margin carries the series headline and a brief tribute text referencing East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause, and Giant.

The Legends of Hollywood program began in 1995 with Marilyn Monroe and became one of the USPS's most collected modern commemorative series. The James Dean issue was released June 24, 1996, in Burbank, California, and Fairmount, Indiana — Dean's hometown. Selvage carries the James Dean Foundation Trust and CMG Worldwide credit, USPS 1996 copyright, plate position marker, and the 20 × 32¢ = $6.40 face-value notation. Plate number S1111 appears at each corner.

CONDITION

Excellent. Sheet is intact and unused with gum undisturbed. Stored flat with no folds; stamps present clean with bright color and sharp perforations throughout.
